Independent notes for better-prepared days.
Thistledown Vale is an independently published planning guide to Cornwall's coast path, surf towns, mining heritage and food culture. It exists to help people prepare properly for a day outdoors in Cornwall — realistic distances, honest safety notes, and real sources to check before you go. It is not a booking platform, does not sell tours or accommodation, and has no affiliation with any tourism board, National Trust, or local authority.
How we research
Where possible, content on this site is based on first-hand familiarity with the routes and sites described, cross-checked against authoritative sources — the South West Coast Path Association, National Trust visitor information, UNESCO's own documentation for the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, and the official Cornish Pasty Association and PGI specification. Distances, opening hours and access conditions are noted with the understanding that they change, and every page carries a reminder to verify current information before travelling. When we learn that something has changed or was wrong, we correct it and note the update — we don't make unverified claims about live conditions such as tide state, weather or route closures, since those depend on the day, not the season.

What independence means
This site is not currently funded by affiliate commissions, sponsorships or paid placements, and no business mentioned in this guide has paid for inclusion or received editorial favour in exchange for free access. Photographs are used with appropriate permission or licensing. If that ever changes — for example, if the site introduces affiliate links or sponsored content in future — this page will be updated to disclose it clearly, and any such content will be labelled as such at the point it appears, not buried in policy text. If you spot an error, please send a correction.
